All About SnakesAll About Snakes

Snakes instill a very deep sense of fear in many people. We will often do whatever we can to keep a snake away from our homes, family, pets, yards and gardens, including constantly searching for the best form of snake control.

There are about 250 species of snakes in the United States and Canada. Only two groups are venomous - the coral snake and the pit vipers. The pit vipers include the cottonmouth/water moccasin, copperhead, and rattlesnake.

Snake Repellents

Snakes use their tongue to help them smell.& Gaseous particles from the snake repellent are picked up by the snake's tongue and inserted into the two-holed organ, called the Jacobson's Organ, at the roof of the snake's mouth. Located in the roof of the mouth, this organ is very important to a snake's ability to sense their surroundings and snake repellents work by confusing this keen sense of smell. Repellents are easy to apply and a fast-acting method of snake control.

Snake repellents - DT363

Dr. T’s Nature Products® Snake-A-Way® Snake Repelling Granules is the only EPA registered snake repellent product on the market.  In order for a product to be EPA registered, third party testing must be submitted to support every claim made on the label.

Snake-A-Way® is a very effective odor repellent to snakes, providing a harmless form of snake control. When you’re searching for the best snake control method; rely on America’s #1 selling snake repellent, Snake-A-Way®!

Fall is an important time of year for snake control, so plan on applying snake repellent at this crucial time. Snakes are choosing their home for the winter. Because snakes are territorial, when the snake has offspring they will stay in the area and cause an infestation, making snake control more difficult.

Prevention

Other methods of snake control outside of the Home:

  • Keep woodpiles away from your home and other buildings on your property. Raise wood piles a foot or more off the ground
  • Keep grass and weeds trimmed around all buildings
  • Keep shrubbery trimmed and limit the thickness of the mulch
  • Eliminate leaf pilesSnake Prevention
  • Fill cracks in stone walls
  • Make sure compost piles are set up away from your home or other buildings – these are favorable environments for snakes to lay their eggs.
  • If you live by a stream or creek, clear away brush and debris from its banks.
  • Carefully inspect foundations for cracks or crevices that would allow a rodent or snake to enter. Fill any of these spaces as well as any openings along pipes leading into your home. Once the snake enters the home, they tend to find a hiding place, making it hard to locate the snake and snake control more difficult.
