I have raccoons that raids my pond to eat my goldfish. I picked up the model 1045 and caught a young raccoon the first night. The next 2 nights, my sardine in the trap was gone, the trap door was closed but no raccoon. I think the big raccoon was in the trap which I saw running on the fence a few weeks back. I figure he was in the trap, trip the door but his tail was preventing the door from closing all the way and lock. He finish his free meal and back out with not problem. _______________________________________________
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with the Havahart® Two Door Raccoon Trap (model #1045). As you have described, at times larger animals may have the ability to reach inside with their hind quarters partially outside of the trap, allowing them to back out stealing bait without being trapped. To prevent this it is recommended to set your trap as a one door trap. You will then place or even tie your bait at the far closed end of the trap. This will require the animal’s body to be completely enclosed inside the trap when it is set off.

We have a possum that is eating the dog food at night and 3 feral cats that like to fight with our 2 cats. I picked one of these up last night from a local retailer and nabbed one of the cats the first night! Great product! Our local animal control officer wasn't aware these were available locally but will happily let folks know. :)
