| |  | | How Much Snake Repellent Do you Need? One 4 lb. bag of Snake-A-Way® covers up to ½ acre of land. It is a perimeter repellent, so simply spread the repellent in bands 4-5 inches wide to repel garter snakes, 8-12 inches wide to repel rattlers. For yard application, sprinkle Snake-A-Way® throughout the area within the perimeter. When odor becomes faint, reapply. For large areas to protect, Snake-A-Way® 28 lb. bucket covers up to 3.5 acres.. How Does Snake Repellent Work? Simply apply Snake-A-Way® snake repellent to the perimeter of the area you wish to protect. The scent works by temporarily disrupting the snake's sensory receptors -- Jacobson's Organ (auxiliary olfactory sense organ). This disorientation causes the snake to slither away unharmed, in search of fresh air. Our snake deterrent is easy to use and fast-acting.
